Ideaal toetsenbord is blok aan het been
Hammond onderstreept het eigenzinnige karakter van zijn machines door
een nieuw 'ideaal' toetsenbord met twee rijen. Toch is dat geen wijze
beslissing, want het bemoeilijkt de overstap van typisten die QUERTY gewoon
zijn.
Al snel zijn alle Hammond-machines in twee versies beschikbaar: eentje met een
rond, 'ideaal' toetsenbord zoals deze, en eentje met een
recht,
'universeel'.
Hiermee zit Hammond overigens in hetzelfde schuitje als de
Blickensderfer, met diens 'wetenschappelijke'
en 'universele' varianten.
Ideal keyboard is a burden
Hammond emphasizes the very different character of his machines with a
new 'ideal' keyboard with two rows. That is, however, not a wise decision
as it makes switching over more difficult for typists who are used to QUERTY.
All Hammond-machines are soon available in two versions: one with a round,
'ideal' keyboard, and one with a
straight,
'universal'. With this, Hammond is in the same boat as the
Blickensderfer, with its 'scientific' and
'universal' versions.
