Dubbel zo veel plezier
Hammonds (zoals de 2 en de
12) zijn van alle taalmarkten thuis. In enkele
seconden vervang je hun typewiel om bijvoorbeeld Grieks te schrijven, in
schuinschrift of in een ander lettertype.
Met zijn Multiplex speelt Hammond dit competitieve voordeel verder uit. Want
die draagt continu twee lettertypes op zijn typewiel, waartussen je wisselt door
het een halve slag te draaien. Bestel je een machine met Latijns en Grieks
schrift? Dan voorziet Hammond alle toetsen in de fabriek van een dubbele
belettering. Er zijn zelfs machines voor Hebreeuws en Arabisch, waarvan de wagen
in twee richtingen kan reizen, zodat je ook van rechts naar links kunt typen.
Vanaf 1916 beschermt plaatstaal de mecaniek in de
gesloten Multiplex.
Filantroop
In 1913, het jaar dat de Multiplex op de markt komt, overlijdt ook zijn
spirituele vader als een bijzonder welstellend man én filantroop. Want hij
schenkt zijn waardevolle octrooirechten bij erfenis aan het NY Metropolitan
Museum of Art!
Twice as much pleasure
Hammonds (such as the 2 and the
12)
are language all-rounders. In just a few seconds, you can change their type
wheel to Greek, to italics or to a different type face.
With its Multiplex, Hammond makes further use of this competitive advantage.
It has constantly two type faces on its type wheel, which can be alternated by
giving it a half turn. Do you want to order a machine with Latin or Greek type?
Hammond gives all the keys double lettering. There are even machines for Hebrew
and Arabic, of which the carriage travels in two directions, so it is possible
to type from right to left.
As of 1916 a sheet metal cover protects the mechanics from dust in the
closed Multiplex.
Philanthropist
In 1913,
the year the Multiplex comes onto the market, its inventor dies a very wealthy
man. He is also a philanthropist as in his will, he leaves his valuable register
of patents to the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art!
